Monday Morning Surf Club!

Another stormy one, chasing down the bomb sets…

The forecast looked even more scary than last week, with a huge swell and high winds, so we needed to go hunting for some shelter, not really knowing what we would find or if we would even surf…

Checking the beach from a distance, after a drive along the coast, the waves seemed fairly mellow and surprisingly surfable, so much so that James suited up and grabbed his 9’1 Wicket longboard.

After the paddle out we noticed we were being ripped around a headland, and with a lot of water moving around it was clear that lining up with the waves was going to be tricky.

We ended up spending the entire session paddling along the shoreline, trying to get out to the fast breaking bomb sets we could see in the distance, which is where the longboard came in handy, as James was able to snag a couple of meaty walls of water.

As the waves broke from deeper water there was a section when they would suddenly jack up and dump, which proved fun for Chris on his 6’4 Woodburner, but they came at a cost, with plenty of wipeouts and long paddles through fairly turbulent white water.

In the end it was worth all the effort, however the largest and most shapley waves still eluded us, we were grateful to have had a surf where most other spots along the North Coast would have been blown out!

See you next week!

All of our sustainable, hollow wooden surfboards are made using wood from local regenerative woodlands and are intended for a lifetime of waves.
