Otter Tales: Photos From Our Film Night!

15 . 04 . 25

Last Friday we had the pleasure of hosting an awesome evening of food, films and friends…

This was an event we had been looking forward to for a while!

The opportunity to open up the workshop and invite folks to come and watch exclusive screenings of 3 films, featuring a question and answer session, whilst raising money for Surfers Against Sewage was such an exciting prospect.

And the evening did not disappoint!

The proceedings were kicked off with a steaming hot bowl of chili from our friends at Canteen, and everyone had the chance to mingle in the sun, checking out our workshop and surfboards on display.

We all grabbed drinks from the bar as we entered the new venue across from our workshop, and settled in for the first of the films, following a warm welcome and introduction from James.

A good friend and longtime supporter of Otter Surfboards, Chris Hines MBE, founder of Surfers Against Sewage introduced a screening of his film M.A.D, which gave an intimate and personal glimpse into the activism and outlook which has defined his life as an environmentalist.

The only other viewing of the film, which is not available online, was at the 2024 London Surf Film festival, so we were honoured to have been able to show it, not least because we had Chris and Finn Crouch, the filmmaker, both present and happy to answer questions from the audience.

This was followed by two films from artist and activist Andy Hughes, who, alongside Surfers Against Sewage was an early advocate for awareness around plastic waste, and who has pioneered research with leading scientists looking at the pollution of our shorelines over the last 30 years.

A truly immersive experience and an inspiring take on using artistic talents to highlight environmental issues.

Following the Q and A session we rounded out the evening with 3 of our favourite clips from our Monday Morning Surf Club videos, which were greeted with whoops and cheers from the audience, the first time we have ever shown them live and an awesome experience to see them on the big screen!

A huge thanks to everyone who attended and made the event such a success, to Canteen for the delicious food, to Chris, Andy and Finn for joining us and to Clare James for taking photos.

We look forward to potentially hosting some more film nights in the future, so watch this space!

All of our sustainable, hollow wooden surfboards are made using wood from local, regenerative woodlands and are intended for a lifetime of waves.
