We got more than we bargained for when we went searching for waves…
As we checked the surf from up the hill the waves looked friendly, peeling across the beach in an orderly fashion, ideal for a longboard we thought…
It’s always hard to tell the size and power of the waves from a distance, but once we paddled out we could feel what they had in store for us!
Many of the waves were closing out, and were much larger than we first thought. There was a lot of water moving around making it difficult to find good take-off spots, with a constant rip pulling us out and along.
James managed to take some big drops from outside and surf all the way through on his 9’1 Wicket, careful to not get caught near the rocks and get pinned in.
Gani was able to pick off a few shoulders from the inside on the 6’2 Swift, making the most of the waves that did stay open for him.
A different surf to what we had anticipated, but fun nonetheless!
