Matt came on a surfboard workshop in 2024 and since then has been regularly surfing the 6’4 Woodburner he made…
“For a short board the wood burner feels incredibly stable and solid for its size. Largely in part to its volume and weight. Being heavier than a standard made board it lends a feeling of security underfoot, especially for a heavier, taller and talent challenged surfer such as myself which I haven’t found on similar sized standard made boards.
The Wood burner has been great in small summer conditions and allows you to get into smaller less powerful waves much like a longboard and surprisingly can also be ridden much like a longboard in smaller surf.
That being said it has also proven to be a great in winter with bigger more powerful surf and again due to its weight and stability has given me the confidence to venture out on the bigger days. It can carry a lot of speed and for those surfers who aren’t going to be doing quick, snappy powerful turns the twin fin set up allows you to enjoy the wave in a much more “cruisie”, relaxed, looser way.
Before the workshop started I wasn’t sure what board I would be making, only that I want to make A board. But after a few visits to the work shop and some excellent advice from James I decided to go with the Woodburner, for all the reasons mentioned above and I couldn’t be happier.”
