From The Archives: Ben Wood Go – Surfing The Cribbar

With all this stormy weather battering the coast we were reminded of a special project from back in 2015…

This project began in 2013 when James was approached by Surfers Against Sewage and Artists Project Earth to design and make a big wave surfboard to be surfed at the UK’s best known big wave: The Cribbar.

Intended to raise awareness of sustainability in surfing and of high performance surfboards made from natural materials, the project would bring Otter surfboards and UK pro surfer Ben Skinner together to design, make and then surf a 9’8 big wave gun.

It would be October 2015 when the conditions and schedules finally aligned for the big event. Ben paddled into a few bombs, showing that the wooden 9’8 surfboard was more than fit for purpose.

Such an awesome project to be involved with and a huge part of our history as a wooden surfboard company!

The 9’8 Surfboard Ben surfed that day is proudly displayed at Surfers Against Sewage HQ, on standby for the next big day!
