“A man who makes things with his hands is a laborer. A man who works with his hands and his brain is a craftsman. But a man who works with his hands and his brain and his heart is an artist.”
It was incredibly flattering when we read this quote in the short introduction to a movie project that we’ve just got involved with. And this is one project that we’re getting awfully excited about! A few weeks ago we were approached by the lovely people at Tiny Dog Films and asked if we would be interested in being the subject of a short film that they are hoping to make. They came down to visit for a couple of days in May and shot some footage on some incredibly state-of-the-art cameras which they’ve edited into a wonderful little teaser-film, available to see here. Their aim is to showcase the surfboards that we produce here at Otter, as well as inspiring young people to pursue a career in a creative or craft based industry and highlighting the more sustainable alternatives available to surfers as consumers. We’re right behind them in their support for creative industries and in trying to awaken surfers to the alternatives to the petro-chemical derived polyurethane foam/polyester resin surfboards that have been the go-to option for the past 60 or so years, and we’re incredibly pleased that they’re keen to use our company as a vehicle for their message.
