We’ve moved!
Lock, stock and barrel, the entire contents of our workshop at Krowji has been packed up, labelled and moved 4 miles down the road to the Mount Pleasant Ecological Park on the hill above Porthtowan. It is said that moving house is one of the most stressful things that you can do, but despite making the decision at short notice just a couple of days before heading off on holiday and getting stuck straight into the move upon their return in the midst of some awful weather, James has managed to keep the whole process calm and orderly.
The building that we’ve moved in to is the largest rammed earth building in the UK and sits in 42 acres of organic farmland on a hill a short walk from the beach. Our new space, at number 6, is a blank canvas that formerly housed an artist’s studio, and we have grand designs to construct a mezzanine floor to house an office and gallery space above the large ground floor workshop. We’ve got lovely blue sliding barn doors so that we can let the outside in on summer days, and are looking forward to creating an inspiring space inside where we can share what we do with you.
One of the major plus points for us, beyond the unique and sustainable nature of our new location, is how much closer we now are to the beach. Camping is available on site too which means that if you join us for a “Build-Your-Own” workshop week you can pitch a tent just a few metres from the workshop and run down to catch a few waves at Porthtowan before and after working on your surfboard. Despite the massive effort involved with moving the entire contents of a workshop and office (we’d like to thank Tony for his help), we’re incredibly excited about this latest chapter in the Otter Surfboards story. We’ve got some exciting things planned for the year ahead and it feels as though we’ve hit the ground running with this unexpected but welcome development. As ever, please feel free to pop in and say hello if you’re passing by, but please be prepared to have to perch on a pile of timber or a full packing crate with your cuppa over the next few weeks as we slowly unpack, continue working on surfboards and construct an upstairs.
