Sustainable Wooden Wavecraft: Saturday Making

09 . 02 . 25

At the weekend we were joined by 4 fine folks in the workshop for a day of making bodysurfing handplanes and bellyboards…

Every couple of months we offer a one day ‘make your own’ workshop during which you can make either a bodysurfing handplane or a bellyboard, regardless of woodwork experience.

Starting with a blank, the first task is to choose which shape you would like, or even design your own, before cutting a rough outline with a saw and then gradually smoothing out the edges.

Many of the skills and tools used are the same as we use when making hollow wooden surfboards, so it can be a great taster before joining us for the full five days.

Following a delicious lunch of local pasties, more rounding over using rasps and sandpaper, and all over sanding, before adding the finishing touches. The stamp and the sign off!

Thanks to Chris, Stuart, Matt and Christopher for joining us for the day, we hope you all find yourselves sliding into waves during your next trip to the beach!

The next 1 day ‘make your own’ workshops are:

19th April

14th June

23rd August

4th October

5th December
