The Finishing Touches

Recently we have had a custom 9’1 Wicket on the trestles, here’s James in the final stages of shaping…

Unlike common toxic foam surfboards, which are merely shaped from mass produced blanks. This surfboard is almost 80 hours into a wholesome and considered making process.

The shape has been constructed around a frame, leaving it virtually hollow inside, using sustainable pieces of wood that have been hand made into the combined elements, including a deck and bottom skin, rail strips and nose and tail blocks.

The surfboard has then been brought to its desired shape, through the removal of excess wood from the top and bottom along the rails, using handplanes, saws and rasps. The only waste produced is in the form of soft curls, wood dust and small offcuts of wood which are stored away to be used later on as kindling in our home wood burners.

Now at this point in the journey James is fine tuning the nose and tail towards their desired contours, sanding every inch to a smooth surface and inlaying our custom logo.

If you would like a handcrafted, custom hollow wooden surfboard made by James you can get in touch here.

All of our sustainable, hollow wooden surfboards are made using wood from local, regenerative woodlands and are intended for a lifetime of waves. Custom made or make your own.
