Tim’s Wooden Surfboard Workshop Experience

03 . 09 . 21

Summer in Cornwall is in full swing! August has been a busy month for us here at the Otter Surfboards workshop, it got off to a great start when Tim joined us during the first week to make himself a 6’10 Jetty…

Tim travelled each day from his family home in Portscatho where he grew up, now splitting his time between there and Spain where he lives with his wife. We are stoked that Tim found the time to come and make a board with us while he was in the country, as due to the pandemic his course had been postponed a couple of times.

During the first two days Tim familiarised himself with the making process quickly and he seemed right at home; working away at the trestles in the far corner of the workshop, a fresh new wooden surfboard taking shape in front of him.

During tea breaks spent relaxing just outside our wide open blue doors Tim talked of his passion for engineering and his previous projects; which included building his own wooden jet propulsion style speedboat in his workshop. Tim kindly sent us a video of the boat in action which can be viewed below:

With Tim very much in the zone and being the sole workshopper of the week, his surfboard took shape in almost record time, with big Wednesday, the day that usually turns into an evening as well, being completed with time to spare, meaning he could get plenty of rest before the main shaping part of the week.

With shaping well under way we took time for a long lunch on Friday, we enjoyed good food, good company and a few laughs, it was a great way to wind down the week. Thanks for joining us Tim, we can’t wait for you to come and see all that hard work pay off when you pick up your new surfboard!
