A few weeks ago we were joined by Will, Matt and Adam who had come to make their own wooden surfboards, here’s how they got on…
Will had driven down from Oxfordshire for the week and stayed in a nearby B&B, he had been wanting to join us for the past 6 years and was happy to finally make it. Having surfed during various holidays and trips, but with large gaps in between, Will wanted a surfboard that he would be able to click with even if he had been out of the sea for a while.
Will chose to make a 7’4 Island Hopper, a surfboard with a lot of volume, making paddling and wave catching easier but agile enough to make solid turns in a range of conditions.
Adam travelled all the way from Glasgow, Scotland to be with us, having grown up at Thurso, a world class wave – he had some great tales of surfing there with just a few friends back in the 80’s. A well travelled surfer Adam is currently exploring away from his usual quiver of shortboards, and joined us to add a mid length to his arsenal.
He chose the 7’2 Coaster, a surfboard which is almost a 1 board quiver in itself, ideal for a range of conditions with a selection of fin set-ups available for maximum versatility.
Matt had originally dropped by after visiting the cafe next door, being local to the area, but never having heard of Otter Surfboards, cut to a few months later he made the short commute each day from the neighbouring village to come and make his own wooden surfboard!
Matt chose to make a 6’4 Woodburner, having recently got back into surfing, finding his feet surfing mid lengths at the local beach. The woodburner is a great step down board as it still has a lot of volume and wave catching ability, whilst offering room for progression with more critical turns and maneuvers.
We can’t wait to welcome back Will, Matt and Adam when it’s time to collect their freshly finished wooden surfboards, ready for the first surf!
