Nick joined us back in February 2022, a keen local surfer, he had been gifted a workshop experience by his sister and mum for his fiftieth birthday. We had known Nick from speaking to him out in the water at Porthtowan, and had invited him to the workshop a couple of times to check out our board rack.
A surfboard that had always caught his eye is our 7’10 Clipper, as it is a semi-gun style board suited for big, serious waves, like the ones that sometimes roll through local spot, Gwithan. As soon as Nick found out he would be joining us for the week, it was clear this would be the shape for him to spend his 5 days making.

Nick chose for his surfboard to be finished in a high gloss, which gave the board a classic sheen, accentuating the finer details, such as the custom nose and tail blocks we made, with wood provided by Nick from a boat yard he had worked in. Topped off with a glassed on single fin, to match the triple dark wood layup featured on the deck and bottom, and featuring a couple of cheeky drawings by his two daughters.
