When it’s too big to surf at the beach… bodysurf!
Another pretty serious forecast and a surf check at Porthtowan saw us default to the trusty handplanes, and the harbour wall around the corner.
At high tide we are lucky to have the options when it’s a little to gnarly at the beach, but on first sight we were all surprised at how big the waves looked, even from halfway up the hill, crashing into the pepper pot way out to sea.
We toyed with the idea of playing around in the shoredump, but once we stepped onto the sand it quickly became clear that there was way too much water moving around to stand a chance of lining up and also we would be risking being swept across the beach.
So we opted for the harbour wall, which seemed to be a little more organised, despite the swell coming in at a different angle and huge close out sets.
We ended up having a classic bodysurf session, with many waves ridden and many beatings served!
Chris was using his Rounded Pin handplane, and James was using his Bob handplane, both using DaFin Swim Fins to kick themselves into the waves.
See you next week!
