Back in August we welcomed Helena, Andrew and Nathan through our big blue doors just up the hill from the beach, for a week of making…
Helena joined us from Nuernberg, Germany where she works as a carpenter. She had been wanting to make her own wooden surfboard with us for a number of years, since stumbling across our workshop during a holiday to the UK, she came back to the Eco Park staying in one of the nearby pods throughout the week with us.
Helena made a 7’4 Island Hopper, perfect for her level of surfing as she has only surfed about once a year for the last 10 years, so she is also hoping to progress her surfing which the Island Hopper is well suited to, with great wave-catching potential and ideal for a range of conditions.
Andrew had been to this part of Cornwall before during holidays from his home in Cambridge, where he is a keen rower, and wanting to expand on his talents on the water, decided to make a surfboard he will be able to use during future trips.
Andrew made a 5’10 Fetch, a great surfboard for maneuverability and a range of waves, which he is hoping to progress towards as he continues learning to surf.
Nathan joined us from Bath where he runs a digital agency, keen to take some time out for himself, happily for us, he decided the best way to do that was to make a wooden surfboard!
Nathan made a 9’8 Cali Log, a longboard with lots of noseriding potential, for cruisey summer days, ideal for the waves at one of Nathan’s favourite beaches, Saunton Sands.
Thanks to Nathan, Helena and Andrew for such a special and memorable week of making.
We will keep you updated on their surfing journeys and where their fresh new wooden surfboards take them!
