A couple of weeks ago, James joined us to make an 8’2 Pieces of Eight – here’s how he got on…
Making a hollow wooden surfboard came at a good time in James’s life as he was keen to explore how the process might relate to certain areas that were personal to him, as he put it – not just making a wooden surfboard, but realising part of an existential experience, working from the inside-out.
James chose to make an 8’2 Pieces of Eight, an ideal surfboard for him to be able to rekindle his love of surfing, which before kids and marriage had been a huge part of his life, that will allow him to rediscover the muscle memory, catching waves easily with room for progression when it comes to turning on the wave.
James gave us an insight into how theraputic the act of shaping was for him, finding focus in the moment and a flow state, which we felt honoured to have been able to facilitate.
