Our Latest Custom Surfboard

Here’s a look at the custom wooden surfboard James is currently shaping…

This 9’8 Cali Log is our latest custom order and is currently in the final stages of shaping, it features a triple dark stringer lay-up and some of the cleanest cedar we have seen to make up the deck and bottom skins.

These first pictures show the inside of the surfboard, the frame, nose and tail blocks and individual rails strips all visible.

James is using the planes to create a flat surface for the deck skin to be glued down onto.

This process can also be seen on day 3 of our make your own workshops, which is often referred to as big Wednesday, with a list of tasks to be completed before the top goes on by the evening.

Below you can see the next stage with the deck skin being paired back, where we start to see the final shape of the surfboard.

Next will be lots more planing and sanding to bring the surfboard to a finish, which we will be doing in the coming days.

With the woodwork element complete, the board with then be taken up to our finisher Paul, who will add glass and epoxy to seal it and make it seaworthy, ready for waxing up and taking to the beach!

Once we have the board back with us, we will post some pictures to show the beautiful finish and glass on fin.
