Last Saturday we welcomed three new people to our monthly workshop to make their own bodysurfing handplanes…
Neil, James and Theo all joined us in the workshop for a day of making, using hand tools to cut their desired shape out of the wooden blanks we had prepared, before shaping and sanding their way to a smooth and refined finish, stopping halfway along for a well earned pasty and a cup of tea.
James joined us from Plymouth, where he has lived for the past 6 months after moving down from Manchester, just getting into surfing, he spoke about wanting to use bodysurfing as a progressive step to learning more about the waves and how to ride them.
Theo had been gifted the experience of making his own bodysurfing handplane as part of his recent birthday celebrations, he plans to take his handplane travelling with him to South America, the ideal surf-craft that fits in your backpack!
Neil grew up in the South West and has surfed for many years, he has followed Otter Surfboards for a while online and was gifted the experience for Christmas, we hope it’s a gift that keeps on giving for many beach days to come!
If you or someone you know is hoping to join us this year to make a wooden bodysurfing handplane, you can view all upcoming workshop dates for making here.
If you have a date in mind for you or a group of friends that we are not currently showing, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
