A shape that takes the best characteristics of longboard design and transplants them onto a shorter board for easier maneuverability.
With the round nose and wider plan shape of a longboard, the Jetty paddles well and catches waves easier but allows for tighter surfing in the pocket and can be turned a great deal easier.
The Jetty was designed with two types of surfer in mind. The shortboarder looking for a bigger board for the days where the waves aren’t really up to much but they still want to enjoy the ocean, or the longboarder who is looking for something smaller and more maneuverable that still catches plenty of waves and can be paddled out into some bigger waves too.
With it’s low rocker line, fuller template and refined volume distribution, this surfboard works well in a huge range of conditions and as a result has become one of our most popular shapes. Suited to the beginner looking to make progress in their surfing as much as the intermediate to expert looking for a board to have fun with.
A flat bottom contour with ‘V’ out the tail aids it’s planing speed and rail to rail transitions making it an easy and delightful board to catch waves on.
The Jetty has been used in various projects over the years, including a 2012 collaboration with The National Trust and UK pro surfer Ben Skinner, which involved making a surfboard using a felled storm damaged tree, which now lives in a selection of National Trust Properties, read more about it here.
Also a popular surfboard with workshoppers, we have seen a few made by folks behind our big blue doors during our 5 day courses, here are some of their stories:
