Sustainable Wooden Surfboard Shapes: The 7’2 Barque

02 . 07 . 25

Our smaller mid-length and a strong contender for the only board you will ever need…

7’2” x 21¾” x 2¾” – 48l

The Barque carries plenty of volume so paddles well and catches waves easily, and its full nose makes it a stable surfboard – particularly in smaller and weaker waves. The relatively straight rail line and pulled in tail also make for a fast board down the line when the surf gets a bit bigger, so it could well be the only surfboard that you need – for any season, at home or abroad.

Originally designed as a shape to replicate a customer’s favourite surfboard, the Barque seemed to perfectly plug the gap for those who were on the fence about either the 6’10 Jetty or 7’4 Island Hopper.

A forgiving rocker line, nice wide template and a nicely rounded pin tail give this board ample planing surface to generate speed from and provides a stable platform for the beginner to intermediate surfer. This could well end up becoming your one-board quiver, that is just at home in playful summer waves as it is through the winter as you push your surfing to the next level.

A flat bottom with ‘V’ out the tail allows it to roll nicely from rail to rail whilst maintaining speed through turns.

As well as the custom 7’2 Barques we have made for folks looking for a trusty go-to mid-length, we have had several being made during our 5 day make your own surfboard workshops.

Here are a couple of the stories so far:
