When Hugo Made His Own Hollow Wooden Surfboard!

06 . 08 . 25

A few weeks ago Hugo joined us for 5 days of making…

A keen surfer for over 35 years, Hugo had joined us to make himself a 9’1 Wicket, our performance longboard suitable for a wide range of conditions, and a great all round board for our Cornish beaches.

The week was a birthday present from his wife, after Hugo had seen us a number of years ago at Bovey Tracey Craft Fair and planted the seed!

Our surfboard workshops are designed for just about anyone, regardless of woodworking experience as the process is broken down into manageable chunks with James constantly on hand, offering guidance but also giving you space and time to get to know the tools and techniques.

Every day during the course is different, with the first 3 days based around building a blank around the internal frame of the surfboard and then the next couple of days are devoted to shaping, using planes, rasps and sandpaper to create the final form.

All of our sustainable, hollow wooden surfboards are made using wood from local, regenerative woodlands and are intended for a lifetime of waves. Custom made or make your own.
