Last week we were joined by Armin who spent the day making his own bellyboard…
Our workshop is based at Mount Pleasant Eco Park, along with other workshops there is also a cafe, event space and camping facilities, which is how Armin stumbled across us. Peeking in through our big blue doors on his way to walk the South West Coast path, he asked whether we had any time free for him to come and make a bellyboard with us.
We booked a day a week or so later when Armin was back from his walk, that just so happened to be during one of our surfboard making weeks, when we would have the workshop ready for him to join us and it would also give us time to prepare a bellyboard blank for him to cut out and shape.
Armin chose the Performance shape, which is designed for extra hold in steeper waves, before drawing around the template and cutting it out, with the next stages involving the round over using planes and rasps followed by sanding to a finish.
The South West Coast path wasn’t the only place Armin was planning to explore on his trip, next he was off to Iceland where he was hoping to take the bellyboard out for it’s first few waves.
A few days later we got this picture of the bellyboard on a black sand beach!
