Saturday Wave-Craft Workshop

05 . 05 . 26

Last Saturday we welcomed 4 new makers into our workshop for a day of making…

When you join an Otter Workshop for the day, you have the option of making a Paipo, Bellyboard or Bodysurfing Handplane, and on Saturday we had the whole range of wave-craft being shaped on our trestles.

Albert, who joined us last year to make a wooden surfboard, had returned to make himself a Paipo featuring a double sandwich lay-up, with many of the woodworking skills being transferable between surfboards and alternative craft, he picked up right where he left off!

Bas, Albert’s son, made himself a Rounded Pin Bodysurfing Handplane, featuring a triple pale wood lay-up and a strap, which will be screwed into the board after a couple of coats of oil.

David, who had been treated for his birthday, made himself a Performance Model Bellyboard featuring a triple dark stringer lay-up.

Tristan, who had received a Handplane Workshop as a Christmas gift, made himself a Fish Model featuring a triple pale wood lay-up and a hand hole.

We had a great day of making, and are excited for the summer adventures that await our new workshoppers!

All of our sustainable wooden wave-craft is made using wood from local, regenerative woodlands and are intended for a lifetime of waves. Custom made or make your own.
