After a few waves in the dumpy conditions, longboards were out, and bellyboards were in…
We were hopeful for a nice gentle wave at the bottom of the hill, and even planned to compare two of our longboard shapes in the surf, as it’s the first time we have had a 9’6 Pier and a 9’1 Wicket in the rack together.
After checking the surf we could see that the lines coming through were only just about breaking once they reached the shore, where recently there has been a massive sandback, so with the tide coming in we knew we would have to be quick and hope to be able to catch the waves before they smashed on the sand.
Chris and James did a great job at surfing a couple of waves in the first set, but we all realised that the conditions called for the bellyboards and we would also have much more fun if we made the switch.
The waves continued to give us good shape for a while despite the onshore wind, so we made the most of the unpredictable lefts, rights and closeouts and had a blast!
We shared a traditional and performance bellyboard between us and were stoked to have had them in the van.
See you next week!
