Hot Off The Press

The saying goes that it never rains, but it pours.  Today feels like one of those days here because so many seeds that we have been planting over the past nine months or so have suddenly sprouted and come into flower.  Back in September last year James was in front of the camera being filmed for Clarks Shoes who were making a series of web shorts about “The Art of Craft”, with each episode featuring one of their craftsmen and a subject from another, similar discipline.  They drew a parallel between the work of their “Last Makers”, who make the wooden moulds that they form each shoe over, and our work here making wooden surfboards.  We’re really pleased with how the video came out and it’s lovely to be asked to feature in projects such as this that celebrate products that are handmade here in the UK.  You can watch the video here on our new vimeo channel where there are a couple of other short videos to keep you entertained.

And then today we had some magazines drop onto our doormat.  We have been featured in three different publications this month which we are over the moon about, and it means that you don’t have to log onto your computer over the bank holiday weekend to read about what we’re up to here.  Coast Magazine have run one of our images on the front cover and the magazine features a full article written by Alex Wade about our workshop weeks.  Alex interviewed both Ian and Fergus about their experiences attending one of our “build-your-own” workshops last August, and there’s a whole load of images of both of them working hard whittling away at their surfboards.  We’d like to thank them both for agreeing to be a part of the article and for their ongoing enthusiasm for what we do, and to Alex and Coast for producing and publishing the article.

We’re also featured in a couple of more local publications, My Cornwall and Cornwall Living.  If you’re in the South West and happen to pick up either of these publications then keep an eye out for us in their pages as part of the build up to Open Studios, and summer in general.
