Boards, BBQ, Beers – Open Night 2018

03 . 06 . 18

The summer solstice is fast approaching, and with it our annual “all are welcome” open-workshop evening of Boards, BBQ and Beers on the evening of Friday June 22nd.

We’ve been wondering how we’re going to match last year’s event when we had over two hundred of you join us to hear talks from Chris Hines MBE and Sam Bleakley, enjoy a few beers and hot dogs, and check out our workshop and wooden surfboards, and now we’re excited to share our plans. For 2018 we’re thrilled to be bringing surf photographer and environmental campaigner Tim Nunn and The Plastic Project to the Eco Park for an exhibition, talk and film screening, and our good friends from Woodfired Canteen will be bringing their A* BBQ game for us all to enjoy.

Guest Speaker: Tim Nunn

A pillar of European surf media, Tim Nunn is a highly regarded surf photographer and former magazine editor and the driving force behind The Plastic Project, an international education programme and multimedia project that aims to use the power and attraction of surfing to inspire people to engage with the environment. Having been to some of the furthest corners of our planet and has seen plastic on each and every coastline, his is a must-see story and these images are where it begins. Tim will be exhibiting some of his incredible photography at B>B>B, and this screening and talk will be the UK premiere of The Plastic Project film ahead of a nationwide tour.

As in years past, the doors of the workshop will be thrown wide open and we’ll have a number of finished and “in-progress” wooden surfboards on display that we invite people to get up close and personal with. The Otter Surfboards team will be around and happy to answer any questions about our surfboards, the tools that we use or whatever else may intrigue you about what goes on here.

Our dear friend Ben Quinn of Woodfired Canteen is bringing his drumbeques, and because the site here at Mount Pleasant Eco park where our workshop is located is now an exclusively vegetarian venue, he’ll be serving up delicious (and free) vegetarian tacos. We’ll also have a couple of kegs of ale tapped which you will be welcome to help yourself to, and the bar will be open in the Eco Park’s barn.

The talks, tacos and beer at Boards, BBQ and Beers is provided totally free-of-charge – we simply ask that you register for a free ticket on the Eventbrite page by clicking this link, so that we have an idea of how many people will be joining us and can ensure that we have enough food and drink for you all.

In short, we are inviting you to spend the evening of Friday June 22nd with us here at our workshop to talk wooden surfboards, eat tacos, drink beer and enjoy an exhibition, talk and film screening from one of Europe’s premier surf photographers, all for free.
